The nature of the Internet lets anybody post information in any form they choose. The amount of information on the Internet grew rapidly in part because of this. However it meant that comparing, contrasting, and sorting information had to be done manually.
The figure below illustrates this through Web pages that might appear from two music companies. The companies choose presentation forms based on aesthetic appeal and perhaps a desire to differentiate themselves from their competition. Unfortunately, deciding which vendor offers the best deal on "Beatles Abbey Road" album requires human judgment.
NetAlive technology puts Internet content into forms that can be understood by computer applications. NetAlive applications can then compare, contrast, and sort information for the user.
The figure below shows a NetAlive application that might be applied to the pages above. NetAlive's "under the hood" technology interprets the information on the Web pages and puts it into a standard form. The NetAlive application then presents the relevant information sorted by price, discarding the rest. The best deal on Beatles Abbey Road can be found easily because the application puts it on the top of the list!
NetAlive technology can be applied broadly. For example:
Sorting The NetAlive application above searches for a product among multiple vendors and presents the user with merged results sorted by relevant criteria.
Removing Duplicates Another NetAlive application can search for information among multiple sites and present the user with each item of information only once. When applied to online newspapers, the user see each headline only once no matter how many papers carry it or for how many days.
Interesting Information Yet another NetAlive application can search for information among multiple sites and present the user with the results of likely interest, discarding the rest. This gives high leverage when the user is searching for a "needle in a haystack": the computer searches the haystack; the user sees just the needles.
